Water Well Drilling - Mathugama, Sri Lanka

Here in Mathugama, Sri Lanka, we were able to fund the drilling of twodeep water wells for a small village of about 50 families. Many in this communituy faced daily challenges accessing clean water, or relying on distant sources. 

We covered the drilling of the wells (approx. 5 USD per foot) and the installation of PVC piping (around 66.67 USD) required to check weather the sites even contained water in the first place. This project came with a risk - if no water had been found we would have had to start over and drill again, meaning additonal time, effort and funding. 

Each area could be drilled to a maximum depth of 200 feet. Costs depended at what level the water was found at, if at all. Thankfully, both chosen sites struck the water reservoir, the first at 178 feet (408.62 USD) and the second at 139 feet (469.38 USD). This effort not only brought clean drinking water to the approximately 50 families but also gave them two closer sources for water.

Almost 950 USD was gathered to fund this, with the costs after the drilling going towards piping.
