From July to September 2023, I dedicated my time and energy to preparing for RIDMA, a cultural charity event designed to support impoverished families in Sri Lanka. RIDMA, meaning "Rhythm" in Sinhalese, is a vibrant celebration of Sri Lankan music and dance aimed at raising funds for those in need.
Participating in RIDMA was an opportunity to connect with my heritage while making a positive impact. The preparation involved rigorous practice sessions, both individually and with a group of fellow performers. Our focus was on perfecting a dance to a more traditional Sri Lankan song, which required practicing footwork, hand gestures, and expressions.
Each week, I spent several hours rehearsing and honing my skills. The group practices were especially valuable to me. The hard work culminated at the RIDMA event, held in front of an enthusiastic audience of around 300 people eager to experience Sri Lankan culture. The energy on stage was incredible, and our performance was met with applause and appreciation. It was a rewarding experience to see our efforts translate into support for Sri Lankan families.
RIDMA was a success, raising close to $5000 in funds and awareness for the cause. Being a part of this event was a fulfilling experience, blending cultural celebration and leaving a meaningful impact on Sri Lankan families.
