Warm Heart Helpers is dedicated to improving the lives of individuals affected by the civil war in Sri Lanka. Many of these individuals suffered life-altering injuries from devastating bomb blasts, leaving them in urgent need of prosthetic limbs to regain their mobility and their independence.
One of these people is Nilantha, a father of two from the Eastern Province, Dadayamthalawa Ampara Village. He lost the bottom half of his left leg around the age of 19, due to a bomb blast. He lives in a village near where warfare was occuuring during the civil war, and unfortunately was caught up in it. We gathered funds in order to sponsor him to recieve a more advanced prosthetic leg (4th option see below), as well as transportation costs (around 40,000 LKR) . Mr. Nilantha traveled twice from the east coast to the west coast of Sri Lanka to Gampaha The prosthetic leg he had previously been using was much heavier, and it was not as mobile as the new leg. This new leg, is lighter, and bends at the knee while following his movements. We were so happy to see him walking around with ease and swiftness. He has two young children to provide for back in his village, and as a three-wheel driver, his legs are important to keep supporting his family. The total costs including transportation was around 440,000 LKR or $1,435 USD.
Thank you to all who helped in amassing these funds and please continue to help us support others.
